Our COO, Chad, is raising money for men’s health through Movember…check out his ‘stache!

21 Nov

During November each year, Movember  is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. Men grow a Mo (moustache) for 30 days to become walking, talking billboards.

With their Mo, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men – so far they’ve raised $174 million dollars in the last 8 years. Funds raised through the Movember US campaign are committed to programs supporting prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives run by Movember and through the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.

Chad is ready for his close-up...

Doc Johnson has always been an advocate of awareness for men’s and women’s health, and Chad Braverman, COO of Doc Johnson, has taken this opportunity to join the Movember movement and raise funds for this worthwhile campaign. “It’s a solemn fact that about 1,500 people die each day in the United States due to cancer. It’s difficult to be aware of that statistic, and not try to take action to lower those numbers.” Chad’s Movember moustache is just one step in the fight against cancer, but every step is valuable.

You can sponsor Chad on his official Movember page. Every dollar counts in the fight against cancer and the promotion of men’s health awareness. Doc Johnson will match every dollar raised by Chad’s Movember Team in the month of November. Please consider giving today.

We’ll give you updates on the progress of both Chad’s moustache and the funds raised. Check out the first round of The Doc vs. The Chad…

Our resident chemist, Tim, was on the Derek D and Peter Dicken show!

12 Oct

Our very own chemist, Tim Crawford, was interviewed on the “Derek D and Peter Dickem Show” Saturday night. Tim is the Director of Scientific Affairs at Doc Johnson, which means that he is responsible for any scientific development and controls within the company. The interviewed covered topics ranging from how he concocts a product, to what the office environment is like in mega sex toy company Doc Johnson.

To listen to the show, click here and find Tim in the archives!

When asked how he designs a product from start to finish, Crawford offered an anecdote in which Chad, Doc’s Chief Officer of Operations, asked Crawford to create something that will “make anal sex easier”. He said that there are about 800,000 chemicals in his library, and he simply works from the ground up. Once finished with his anal lube concoction, and it was approved, he gave it to a female friend as a gift. Crawford said that his female friend was so happy with it that during sex she began screaming Tim’s name instead of her husband’s!

Of course, with great power comes with great responsibilities, and Tim has the extremely important responsibility of making sure all of the products he concocts are body-safe. When asked about government health regulations, Tim said that there are many, and that he is conscious of them every time he makes a new product. For example, with his “Salad Tossing Spray”, Tim made sure that not only did the product work perfectly, but that it also corresponded with all of those health regulations.

As for the environment in such a sexualized business, Tim noted that the women far outnumber the men in the office. However, in this business, we are all equally “open” when it comes to toy testing. It just depends on what your “parts” allow you to try.

Kudos to Tim for a very fun and informative interview!

Meet erotic painter, Valeria Rzianina – part two

9 Oct

Valeria Rzianina is fascinated with the notion of pornography—particularly how it is so pervasive yet still is such a clandestine subject in our culture. So it’s fitting that she creates beautiful art pieces that are porn-inspired. We at Doc Johnson developed an interest in Rzianina after we saw her beautiful paintings in all their erotic glory, and we became curious about her personal views on sex toys and sexuality.

After one of our Sales execs, the lovely Kristen, interviewed Rzianina while on a trip in Toronto, and it immediately became clear that this unique artist was just as pro-sexual experimentation as we are at the Doc. She explained that she is personally very open to experimenting with sex toys. Though she has tried vibrators, dildos, and butt plugs of all shapes and sizes, Rzianina “definitely can’t live without my vibrator! Who said “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”? We wholeheartedly agree— a diamond simply cannot give you a screaming orgasm like a Pocket Rocket can. It was Marilyn Monroe who said that, right?

Rzianina admitted that the crush was mutual, as she was also a fan of us! She says, “When I hear “Doc Johnson, I think of colorful, eye catching packaging, variety and a ‘fun with sex’ attitude. I love that Doc Johnson is not an intimidating brand and offers sexy treats for people from all walks of sexual orientation.” We couldn’t have said it better.

Much love to Valeria!

Meet erotic painter, Valeria Rzianina – part one

5 Oct

Born in Russia in 1984, Valeria Rzianina moved to Toronto with her mom in 1991. In 2007, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Art from Ontario College of Art and Design. Like a true Aquarius, Valeria is full of creativity and loves everything art. She has been painting for 15 years, and professionally since 2002. Her day-to-day gig is doing makeup and hair for some of the hottest glamour and fitness models in the industry. She embodies every aspect of being an artist, exclaiming, “When I’m not painting faces, I paint canvases!”

And what a canvas she paints. Rzianina is inspired with and fascinated by pornography. “It is such a cultural obsession, yet it remains hush-hush and underground. That tension is fascinating”. Her method is unique. She takes pornographic images from magazines, cuts them out, collages them as massive orgies on big canvases, and then paints over them. Her style is painterly, textured, and colorful and her process of choosing which images to use is similar to that of a normal porn consumer: “I keep what I like and delete what I don’t and that’s the process.”

Rzianina currently lives in downtown Toronto and paints every day. She says that the art scene in Toronto is fantastic. The city is really made up of many little (and big) neighborhoods; they’re all slightly different and each offer something unique. Toronto has hundreds of galleries and alternative art space (shops, restaurants, lounges and cafes) where emerging and established artists can show their work. Toronto is also a big part of the international art scene – hosting events such as the Affordable Art Fair, Toronto International Art Fair, The Outdoor Art Exhibition and Nuit Blanche. Toronto is like a New York’s hip little cousin – there literally is something for everyone.

A new look for “Made in the U.S.A”

13 Sep

We recently saw the cover story on the current issue of Dwell Magazine  and it got us thinking about how many American companies rushed to outsource over the last 2 decades and how the renaissance that Dwell is praising is something that never changed for us. We make 75% of our full product line right here in the USA.  And that is A LOT of product, folks… to the tune of about 5,000,000 total pieces a year, on average. 5 Million! And making those products means keeping about 500 people at Doc Johnson employed. Which? Is pretty damn awesome.

October issue of Dwell

So, how can you tell if one of our (5 million…oh come on, it’s impressive!) products is ‘Made In The USA’? It’s easy – we label them. We’re big on transparency. We actually just updated the label’s design and made it a little more modern – and here’s a sneak peek at our new version:

The new label. You like?
