Movember 2011 wrap up – saying goodbye to the mustache

Movember has come to a close. It’s wasn’t easy being a lean, mean, mustached machine, but our COO, Chad Braverman, was just that over the course of “Movember”, a movement in which men all over the world let their mustaches grow over the month of November in support of men’s health issues. We asked our fans to sponsor Chad on his quest to change the face of men’s health and, as a company, promised to match the funds raised.

When we spoke to Chad during Movember, he described his burgeoning stache as “incredibly dirty but at the same time beyond manly and somewhat itchy.” Today, that moustache is gone, but the giving spirit of Movember lives on, thanks to all of your generous donations. So far, Movember has raised 174 million in support of such worthy causes that affect men’s health, with a heavy percentage of donated funds going towards fighting prostate cancer. Because of people like Chad, and those who have graciously opened their hearts and wallets to sponsor Chad, we are one step closer to beating some of the world’s most devastating diseases!

Movember update #2 – attack of the ‘stache

The ‘stache has gained and waned in popularity, but it has certainly made a positive comeback. Movember is changing the face of men’s health, one moustache at a time. During November each year, thousands of men let their hair down, so to speak, in the US and around the world. Armed with their moustaches and a dream, these men raise vital funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men, by asking friends and family to sponsor them. As a result, Movember has been extremely successful, raising a cool 174 million for men’s health since its infancy.

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility, and those taking part in Movember have the great responsibility of choosing what kind of moustache to grow. Doc Johnson’s COO, Chad Braverman, describes his moustache as “incredibly dirty but at the same time beyond manly and somewhat itchy”. However, the possibilities for moustache styles and shapes are almost limitless.

During November each year, Movember  is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. Men grow a Mo (moustache) for 30 days to become walking, talking billboards.

With their Mo, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men – so far they’ve raised $174 million dollars in the last 8 years. Funds raised through the Movember US campaign are committed to programs supporting prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives run by Movember and through the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.

Doc Johnson has always been an advocate of awareness for men’s and women’s health, and Chad Braverman, COO of Doc Johnson, has taken this opportunity to join the Movember movement and raise funds for this worthwhile campaign. “It’s a solemn fact that about 1,500 people die each day in the United States due to cancer. Meet erotic painter, Valeria Rzianina – part two

Valeria Rzianina is fascinated with the notion of pornography—particularly how it is so pervasive yet still is such a clandestine subject in our culture. So it’s fitting that she creates beautiful art pieces that are porn-inspired. We at Doc Johnson developed an interest in Rzianina after we saw her beautiful paintings in all their erotic glory, and we became curious about her personal views on sex toys and sexuality.

After one of our Sales execs, the lovely Kristen, interviewed Rzianina while on a trip in Toronto, and it immediately became clear that this unique artist was just as pro-sexual experimentation as we are at the Doc. She explained that she is personally very open to experimenting with sex toys. Though she has tried vibrators, dildos, and butt plugs of all shapes and sizes, Rzianina “definitely can’t live without my vibrator! Who said “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”? Meet erotic painter, Valeria Rzianina – part one

Born in Russia in 1984, Valeria Rzianina moved to Toronto with her mom in 1991. In 2007, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Art from Ontario College of Art and Design. Like a true Aquarius, Valeria is full of creativity and loves everything art. She has been painting for 15 years, and professionally since 2002. Her day-to-day gig is doing makeup and hair for some of the hottest glamour and fitness models in the industry. She embodies every aspect of being an artist, exclaiming, “When I’m not painting faces, I paint canvases!”

And what a canvas she paints. Rzianina is inspired with and fascinated by pornography. “It is such a cultural obsession, yet it remains hush-hush and underground. That tension is fascinating”. Her method is unique. She takes pornographic images from magazines, cuts them out, collages them as massive orgies on big canvases, and then paints over them. Her style is painterly, textured, and colorful and her process of choosing which images to use is similar to that of a normal porn consumer: “I keep what I like and delete what I don’t and that’s the process.”

Rzianina currently lives in downtown Toronto and paints every day. She says that the art scene in Toronto is fantastic. The city is really made up of many little (and big) neighborhoods; they’re all slightly different and each offer something unique. Toronto has hundreds of galleries and alternative art space (shops, restaurants, lounges and cafes) where emerging and established artists can show their work. Toronto is also a big part of the international art scene – hosting events such as the Affordable Art Fair, Toronto International Art Fair, The Outdoor Art Exhibition and Nuit Blanche. Toronto is like a New York’s hip little cousin – there literally is something for everyone.
